Artist's Bio

For Sheryl Sauer, art and an abundant appreciation for God’s creations of all that is visible and sensed, manifested within her long before she began painting. From her first “awestruck” moment at age 11 while traveling from Delaware to Seattle, Sheryl was overcome with amazement as she absorbed this Montana sunset that lite up a wide spans of dried grass, reaching beyond the long stretch of railroad tracks. From this experience Sheryl’s sense of awareness and observation became acute. Sheryl began to see and feel a vividness in colors, shapes, smells, sounds wherever she was.

It was years later while Sheryl was traveling from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Dallas, Texas when she experienced an epiphany. She witnessed an incredible vision of a massive, expansive red, purple, orange, yellow sunset during a thunderstorm over Santa Fe. This experience set Sheryl on a course that changed her life dramatically. She was compelled to return to college in Texas to study art and all related elements of this genre. At that time, Sheryl juggled her career as a corporate paralegal, with attending college early mornings and late evenings.

After her move to Orange County, California in 1997, Sheryl joined a watercolor class in Laguna Beach that stimulated her desire to attend workshops in the U.S. and Europe instructed by highly-talented artists. Through this education process, she gained a great appreciation for the disciplines of being an artist. During the next 18 years Sheryl joined art groups, entered art competitions, ran an association art gallery, served as president of an art association, exhibited in art galleries, won ribbons in art shows, judged art shows and participated for 10 years in a prestigious, International, summer-long, juried show in Laguna Beach. Sheryl continued attending workshops, painting in watercolors, acrylics and mixed media in arenas of representational, plein air and abstract expressionism, drawing inspiration provided by Universal Energy.

Currently living in Arizona, Sheryl participates in local art group forums, gallery exhibitions and teaching art classes in abstract design and mixed media. Sheryl continues to be inspired by everything around her and maintains an openness to wherever her artistic journey leads her. A favorite verse by Robert Frost captures Sheryl’s love of creating and exploring: “And miles to go before I sleep.  And miles to go before I sleep.”
